Energy efficiency in buildings leads to budgetary savings and contributes to climate protection and the security of energy supply. But still, an average of 30 percent of economically realisable energy savings remains untapped.

This potential can be effectively realised using energy services and other energy end-use efficiency measures – a market that could be worth between 5 and 10 billion euros per year. Innovative partnerships between public building owners and private energy companies are an effective tool to open this promising market.

In order to honor outstanding efforts to promote energy services the European Energy Service Award has been awarded since 2005. The number of applications and interested audience has grown significantly ever since.
