:: EESI promotes Energy Performance Contracting in Denmark

Is modernisation and energy renovation of public buildings possible without being exposed to economic risks? In the framework of the European Energy Service Initiative, the experts of the Berlin Energy Agency (BEA) informed the Danish municipalities about the possibilities offered by Energy Performance Contracting.

The Danish municipalities Middelfart, Gribskov and Kalundborg had a difficult task in gathering the first information regarding Energy Performance Contracting (EPC), because in the past, in Denmark, no building was renovated using EPC. In order to successfully implement EPC Projects in the future, the municipalities received counselling from BEA during a three days workshop. The energy experts informed the interested guests about all the steps required in Energy Performance Contracting – from project development, to the drafting of the contract and the implementation period. In this case, the many years of experience gathered by BEA as project manager of EPC-Pools in Berlin were very useful.

The workshop participants used the opportunity to exchange experience with the representatives of the Berlin Senate for Health, Environment and Consumer Protection, of the Federal Ministry for Transportation, Buildings and Urban Development, as well as with experts responsible for the EPC-Pools Charlottenburg-Wilmersdorf and Steglitz-Zehlendorf.

Their engagement for more energy efficiency and climate protection in public buildings while simultaneously unburdening their budget brought Middelfart, Gribskov and Kalundborg in the national headlines. Today, these municipalities are seen as EPC forerunners in Denmark.

The European Energy Service Initiative offers tailor-made workshops and expert trainings at national and international level for municipalities, energy agencies, start-up-ESCOs and other interested persons and organisations. The scope and the complexity of such a workshop, as well as the single modules can be adapted to the needs of the participants. Get informed about our services on the national EESI webpages.
